It was discovered in Greenland in 1811 but only became widely used in jewellery and ornamental pieces when massive deposits were discovered in Ontario, Canada in 1891. A royal blue in its most common colour, it is generally found with white veins or patches. It is only found and mined in a handful of places around the world. Accompanied by a card detailing the
