A total of four comparable statues are known, each around 6 cm high and dating from the 9th 10th centuries, each with four faces possibly symbolizing the four directions or the four seasons. Svantevit was a high Slavic god, worshiped by the Ranen on Rgen and other Elbe and Baltic Sea Slavs as a god of war, god of fertility and abundance, and as an oracle
